The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Massage Therapy™ is a non-invasive, external massage technique for the abdomen and pelvis that helps to guide the internal reproductive organs into their proper position and relieve tension in the diaphragm and digestive system. The massage improves organ function by releasing physical and emotional congestion, thereby helping to re-establish health in the pelvic and abdominal region.

Maya abdominal massage has been known and practiced for thousands of years, the technique having been passed down through an unbroken chain of midwives, healers and shaman, generation after generation, all over the world from Central America to Africa, Egypt and China. Sadly, this knowledge has largely been forgotten or suppressed in this century. The technique, as practiced today, was developed by Dr Rosita Arvigo who apprenticed with one of the last of the traditional Maya shaman in Belize, Don Elijio Panti, for over 13 years.

The technique is performed on the abdomen and pelvis to help bring the uterus into its proper position, soften musculature, release tension in the diaphragm, align the pelvis and release muscular armouring in the trunk. This has the effect of enhancing the circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids and the elimination and secretion of hormones, thereby re-establishing homeostasis in the pelvis and surrounding organs. When the uterus is out of position the vital flow of blood, lymph, nerve impulse and chi to the pelvic area is compromised. All of these are essential for general pelvic health as well as healthy conception, pregnancy and delivery.

The massage is very comprehensive and works on the physical, emotional and spiritual level to help bring the body back into balance and harmony. Practitioners have reported as much as 50% success rate for natural conception when working with couples experiencing fertility problems and many people have managed to save their uterus and other organs from removal through rigorous self-care and professional treatment.

Some of the common symptoms, which may be helped by Maya Abdominal Massage and may indicate a displaced uterus, tight diaphragm or twisted pelvis include painful or irregular periods and ovulation; PMS; amenorrhoea/ dysmenorrhoea; endometriosis/ endometritis/ adenomyosis; uterine polyps; ovarian cysts; fibroids; polycystic ovarian syndrome; vaginitis; hormonal imbalance; painful intercourse; fertility issues; difficult pregnancy & delivery; difficult menopause; lower back ache; tired legs, numb feet/ sore heals; varicose veins; chronic indigestion/ heartburn; chronic constipation; gastritis; IBS; frequent or painful urination; recurrent bladder infections; organ prolapse; difficulties with sexual function.

The technique is also useful for men/ people with a penis, as it helps to guard against prostate cancer, can improve fertility, help with erectile dysfunction and protects pelvic and sexual health.

Western medicine has not recognised as yet how important the state of the abdomen and in particular the positioning of the uterus is to women’s health and therefore has little to offer bar pain killers and surgery. It is estimated that as many as 80% of women have a displaced or dropped uterus. Some common reasons for a uterus becoming displaced include falls at any time of life, car accidents, wearing high heels, walking barefoot on cold floors, running on cement surfaces, high-impact aerobics, dancing, horse-riding and gymnastics, carrying heavy burdens during menstruation and too soon after childbirth, difficult labour and birth, weak pelvic floor, surgery to the pelvic region, chronic constipation and emotional armouring from rape or sexual abuse.

Lizzie has also spent time in the cadaver labs at St. Thomas and Guys Hospital London, focusing on the abdomen. This has allowed her to gain a deeper knowledge, understanding and reverence for what is going on in the belly.

"The female pelvis is a powerhouse of energy transformation; the very throne of creation which universal creative energy patterns course and flow. This depends on balance within the system." - Dr. Rosita Arvigo, DN

Treatments are given at Lizzie's home in Somersham, nr Huntingdon. Please get in touch to discuss your needs.
