Lizzie with Rosita Arvigo, founder and teacher of Maya Abdominal Therapy

Lizzie is passionate about women’s health and wellbeing at all stages of life, from cradle to grave and this is reflected in the work that she does. She is deeply committed to helping people to empower themselves to bring about a greater sense of health and inner contentment to their lives. Her interest in women’s health started with the home birth of her son in 1995. This life-changing event prompted her to retrain as a doula with Michel O’dent in 1998. A year later, she undertook a years training to become a holistic birth educator with Amanda Rayment of the Holistic Birth Foundation. During the birth educators training she came across pregnancy massage which seemed to compliment the work she was already doing nicely, but had to become a qualified massage therapist first in order to do that training.

In September of 2001, having had a psychic reading that proclaimed her to be a ‘born masseuse’ she found herself sitting in the massage class at the local college in Somerset. Having completed this, she was finally able to do the Wellmother pregnancy massage training with Suzanne Yates. Her love of learning and acquiring new knowledge and skills was fully ignited and she has continued to take further training in massage and birth related fields on a regular basis, including training in fertility awareness, Maya Abdominal Therapy, ‘Love Your Guts’ visceral massage, Indonesian post-natal massage and abdominal binding, more specialized aspects of pregnancy massage and spiritual healing. Some of this training has taken her as far as The USA and Belize. She is committed to keeping up to date with advances in understanding of massage and women’s issues/ general health and healing through CPD training and extracurricular reading. Over the years she has assisted on pregnancy massage trainings, Arvigo Therapy trainings, Love Your Guts trainings, has taught massage to student midwives at Oxford Brookes University and has organised continuing professional development days for pregnancy massage practitioners. She is fully insured for all the work that she does through The Federation of Holistic Therapists and is a professional member of The Abdominal Therapy Collective.

Lizzie lives with her partner in The Fens. In her spare time she enjoys going for long walks in the countryside, communing with the local wildlife, wild swimming, reading, and crafts - in particular spinning, knitting, weaving and sewing. The biggest light in her life is her granddaughter, who she see's regularly and is re-learning the wonder, magic, joys and innocence of life with.

As well as giving massage treatments, she also runs a knitting surgery and sells her weaving products. To find out more about this, please go to the Habetrot's Cauldron page.
